Welcome
to my little home on the web.

image     Well, here I go again. I had to go and try to put into practice some of the things I have been learning since I left school, just over a year ago.

Wow...Check it out.
This is the twelfth(12) version of my website. An even dozen, now. LOL It's sure been a long time since I've used this logo on my very first personal website.

I have posted all the source files for this website, at the SWiSHZone Forums as a free download for the online community. I've learned a lot in those forums, and thought I could go and give something back. Maybe someone will learn something from it.

Site Features

This site created with SWiSHMax2
Ok, the goal here is to take what I have and work it all into a useable, attractive website. I personally would like to go for a clean look, and still create a good content layout that utilizes the white space the best. After 20 years in the offset printing industry as a press operator, I've seen a lot of page layouts in print and it seems that I should try to base this website layout on that knowledge, even if it is a simple page layout.

As with several of my past projects, Carmex Lip Balm, and my own v11_1 of FlawlessDog.com, this site features the SWFAddress. I really do like that bit of script, as it feeds right into my interest in a good flash navigation system. I've had a bit of practice using this script, and I think I have improved somewhat. You can find most all of the work I done with SWFAddress, at the SWiSHZone forums.

I have learned to create the pages a bit more dynamically, so I am no longer using the timeline based system in the beginner examples that can be found on Asual's samples page. In this example, the entire nav system structure is created and controlled from the menu xml.

In addition, this site is far better Search Engine Optimized ...I hope... I tried to base this on the SEO example provided by Asual in the examples folder. However, I wanted to create a version that wasn't written in PHP, but instead was written in html...Ummm...for no other reason than to see if I could do it LOL...
Anyway...all the content is written in the index page of the site. It seems to work ok, but could do with a few more hours work.

Also, I am playing around with stage management to a greater extent in this version of my website. This also includes the use of a scrollbar to handle content overflow. The scrollbar should work pretty much like any other; scroll wheel activated, up and down keyboard arrows as well as the page up, page down keys which will scroll the window a bit faster than the arrow keys. I am using a new formula to size the scrollbar itself so that is a more accurate ratio to the content height.

Final Projects
And other school work that I am proud of.

Contained in these pages, are examples of my best school work completed for classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I started off in the eCommerce/Web Administration program. However, after I got my first accounting book, I decided that a change was in order.

I signed up for the Visual Communications program, and I discovered that I had pretty much found my niche. I love working with good graphics, but I rediscovered that the web animation and programming is what I really like the most. I have learned that there is more to good design, then the pretty pictures. When it's up on that computer screen, it's gotta work right, and that's what I'm into.

VICOM 1 -
Programming in SwishMax is a lot like programming in Macromedia Flash, so the transition from SwishMax to Macromedia Flash has been fun for me. I like converting SwishMax script to Flash action script and back again when I have time. Working with Macromedia Flash has really been helpful in cleaning up my script, and getting it all in one place so it is easier to edit later.

VICOM 2 -
This page is a collection of website templates, and graphic work examples that I have completed for various classes. In the website templates, I have tried to pay particular attention to writing clean xhtml, and css.

Photo Gallery -
This page contains 40 of my favorite 35mm color transparencies taken in PHOTO 101.

Written Works -
This page is a collection of written works, completed for 2 different creative and essay writing classes.

VICOM 1
My projects from MATC

VICOM 161 - Project

../school/vicom_161Calc/index.html
- Take an example of a calculator written in ActionScript 1.0, and update it to ActionScript 2.0. All button scripting and calculations are now on a single frame of the timeline. As I know SwishMax best, I chose this one from the SwishZone website. Macromedia Flash8

ANIM 156 - Final

../school/anim_156/index.html
- Intro to 2D Animation Final Project.
Authored in SwishMax 2006.06.29

VICOM 105 - Final

../school/vicom105Final/index.html
- Create working Flash website. I spent a lot of time on the nav system. While working on this, I became aware of how important it is for the user to be able to navigate to any page from any page. Many of these lessons were applied to the Carma-Lab.com website. Macromedia Flash8

VICOM 105 - Project

../school/POD_13b/index.html
- The main point of this project was to practice flash programming, masking and audio skills. Macromedia Flash8

Written Works
My projects from MATC

Underworld 2 - The Line of Corvinus
- Final project for my creative writing class. I had a hard time with this one. The subject was very complex. I didn't have an ending for this, and was only half as long as it should have been. I still ended the semester with a "B" in this class.

An Interesting experience I have had
- Another short essay about my hitchhiking days.

The Seattle Washington Parks Department Automatic Sprinkler System
- My first short essay about my hitchhiking days.

A Fable - The Dog, the Rabbit, and the Python
- Just a bit of fun

The VonKlienshmitt Legend - The story of terror behind the haunted barn
- I wrote this after a brainstorming session with Tim Becker, for use on a website. FrightNightOn50.com (no longer online) Even though this was written before college, I was working towards my GED at the time.

Archive of Past Works
The years before school at MATC

These pages contain an archive of past works I've saved over the years. Most was done simply for the fun of learning a new thing. After 20 years in the off-set printing industry, I had found a need in myself for something new. Started off selling stuff on eBay, and that was where I learned just how much fun html could be. After that, I was hooked. These examples may not all look good, but together they show the progress I have made in the years before MATC.

The-verybest.com was my first domain name and I used it to practice all I was learning about html, css, javascript, and flash.
After a few years had passed and I finally did start school, I said goodbye to that domain, and started FlawlessDog.com where I continue to hone my skills.
I hope you enjoy looking around in here, as much as I have had creating it.

I've been a part of a few online communities, especially the SwishMax, and Web Design communities, where I have learned a great deal. These communities were, and will continue to be my class room.

As a Proud Alumnus of these communities,
I would like to thank those great folks at the following sites that have helped me learn, and continue to help all those others that ask:

SwishMax Projects

eggs-in-wisconsin 3d

http://www.flawlessdog.com/eggzdownload/3d/
When I got my first computer, one of the first things I found on the Internet were these folks that do 3-d works. Early on, one group that inspired me quite a bit were those that worked with Pov-Ray.
Pov-Ray programming isn't my cup of tea, nor is it an industry standard program, but I still loved the images that they produced. Those artists were one of the inspirations behind these animations.

FlawlessDog Chat

http://www.flawlessdog.com/bgslider_chat_v6/
This chat application is the result of a lot of research into creating a chat room with SwishMax. I made several versions before this one and in each instance, I learned to build upon what I have already learned. This chat uses php that I edited a bit, and writes to a txt file.

BlueClock

http://www.flawlessdog.com/blueclock/

The 100Clock Collection

http://www.flawlessdog.com/100clocks/
I found a Macromedia Flash analog clock tutorial from Flash-kit.
I converted the ActionScript to SwishScript,
and played with a few different clock faces.

Cemre Ozkurt

http://www.flawlessdog.com/cemre/
I made this web site some time ago. I created it as a practice exercise. I was just learning how to create a web site using Swish2. I email Cemre, and told him about it. I show this now with permission.
This is Cemre's real web site address.
